Biography
Based in Gravette, AR, Crow Johnson has earned recognition as a songwriter across the South and West. She oversees Zassafrass Music News while issuing folk-jazz albums on an irregular schedule beginning in the early 60's. Her entry into music occurred on the Houston coffee house circuit, where she adopted the name Crow Johnson by combining her grandfather's Native American name with her ex-husband's surname. In that regional scene she performed alongside early Texas songwriters, among them Townes Van Zandt and Janis Joplin, many of whom later achieved rock prominence. After relocating to England in 1968 she supplied songs for other performers before returning to the States and establishing herself as a solo folk singer. A cancer diagnosis arrived in the 80's, yet she overcame the illness and achieved remission in the early 90's.
