Formed in Florida during 2001, Cru Jones took its name from the central figure in the 1986 BMX film Rad. Several years afterward the group shifted its base to Syracuse, NY, where its fervent fusion of post-hardcore and emo occasionally called to mind Fugazi or early Coalesce. Dynamic songwriting, nonstop road work, and a fiercely physical stage presence allowed the quartet to cultivate a devoted grassroots audience. The original roster featured brothers Terry on vocals and Mike Bloom on drums, alongside guitarist Tyler Miller and bassist Stephen Lamberti. On Undecided Records the band issued its first full-length album, The Conversation, in 2004; the record earned favorable notice. Toward the close of summer 2005 the same label released the acoustic EP A Roadside View. Following several personnel shifts, the lineup at that juncture comprised the Bloom brothers, bassist Phil Christensen, and guitarists Tim Shore and Travis Fitzsimmons.
