The indie rock outfit Crush Luther originated in 2004 inside the southern Ontario city of London, Canada, with singer Luther Mallory joined by guitarists Giggi Bongard and Matt Fury, drummer Brent Mills, and bassist Bodan Mulholland. The ensemble then relocated from that relatively sleepy university town northward along Lake Ontario’s shoreline into the always thriving musical mecca of Toronto. Once settled, the band created a self-released demo that spread through ordinary merch table and MySpace channels while they steadily raised their live profile across Canada. In 2006 they signed with the new Toronto-based indie High 4 Records, the label owned and operated by Darrin Pfeiffer, former drummer of the ska-punk outfit Goldfinger turned local radio personality. Their debut album, the self-titled Crush Luther, appeared in February 2007 and earned the group extensive airplay on the Canadian MuchMusic cable network together with its U.S. subsidiary Fuse, plus an appearance on the 2007 Warped Tour.
