Biography
Cryptic Cadet, a production duo that regularly enlists outside voices for lead vocals, works in the warmer zones of pop by fusing jazz, soft rock, and adult-pop textures. Their first EP, Disconnected, surfaced in 2021.
Mark Owen, who handles keyboards and production, and Cameron Tyler, who handles drums and production, met while both were working as supporting musicians in Las Vegas; that shared setting prompted them to launch Cryptic Cadet. Already active with ensembles such as Cirque du Soleil and the Jimmy Carpenter Band, each also maintained separate production and mixing projects. Owen supplied the lyrics for the duo’s debut single, “Eyes Not My Own,” which appeared in February 2021 and was followed one month later by the EP Disconnected. The recordings were completed with bassist Tim Lefebvre, guitarist Matt Ascione, and lead vocalist Olivia Rubini.
