Biography
Crystal Eyes emerged from Canada as a dream pop outfit whose hazed-over sound draws in threads of psychedelia, shoegaze, and grunge-driven force. Their initial recordings captured raw, live-in-the-studio energy paired with analog methods, while the 2022 follow-up The Sweetness Restored broadened the palette through added instrumentation and a richer range of sonic layers.
Midway through the 2010s, vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Erin Jenkins assembled Crystal Eyes in Calgary, Alberta, enlisting a shifting roster of local players. Jenkins sustained that fluid lineup approach as the group expanded, allowing the band to handle touring and recording with fewer scheduling hurdles. The 2015 release No Man Is an Island offered an early, demo-style glimpse of their rough-edged, shoegaze-tinged dream pop aesthetic. Working again with producer Chris Dadge, Jenkins and her collaborators tracked 2017’s The Female Imagination to analog tape inside Dadge’s basement studio. The year 2019 brought a split single alongside Edmonton artist Marlaena Moore, after which the band headed to Montreal to lay down the songs destined for their next album. Issued in April 2022 on the Bobo Integral label, that sophomore effort The Sweetness Restored was produced by Andrew Woods and mixed by Arcade Fire collaborator Mark Lawson.
