By the close of 1992, Mexican students Miguel Olague and José Rodríguez first encountered each other as members of their school ensemble. The following year, the pair recruited Salvador Loya into a fresh endeavor named La Calle, which specialized in covers drawn from leading Latin rock outfits including Soda Stereo, Maná, and Caifanes. Keyboardist Gustavo Avila and former El Poste member Francisco Zamora subsequently entered the lineup. Still intent on forging a distinct sound, the founding musicians dissolved the group in July 1994. That dissolution marked the initial move toward assembling the heavy metal outfit Cuarto Obscuro, whose roster featured Olague, Rodríguez, keyboardist Gustavo Avila, bassist David Prieto, and drummer Leonel Cuesta.
