Formed in the closing years of the 1980s, the Venezuelan alternative pop/rock threesome Culto Oculto stepped away from the underground circuit in 1995 to join a local festival spotlighting new bands. Their debut album, Flotar No Es Mas Que Existir, Un Movimiento Ondulatorio, appeared on the Mexican label Culebra Continental in 1997 and reached listeners in Venezuela the following year through Plutón Records. The Venezuelan Pop & Rock Awards handed Culto Oculto nominations in 1999 for Best Video, Best Live Performance, and Best Album; during that same year the group laid down BARalt000mix, which surfaced in 2000.
