Emerging from Vermont's northern reaches, Currently Nameless delivers a musical style so varied that it borders on nondescript, a common outcome for numerous ensembles in the jam band scene they inhabit. This five-piece group combines acoustic folk strumming with funk rhythms and psychedelic soul elements, resulting in a murky fusion.
Led by Sean Daley, whose raspy singing evokes an inexperienced performer aping a blues vocalist, the group assembled in Burlington, Vermont, during the closing years of the 1990s. They performed frequently at local drinking establishments across the various mountain resort areas in the state, akin to how String Cheese Incident operated in Colorado. Their initial release, Someday I, came together rapidly and featured convoluted humorous references to their own vehicle among other inside jokes, nods to cultural icons like Sesame Street's Snuffleupagus, alongside typical themes popular among cannabis enthusiasts.
