Biography
With striking crimson tresses cascading to considerable length and a vocal style that might have unsettled even Johnny Lydon’s mother, Declan O’Shea seemed destined for visibility from the outset. Guitarist Nono Presta, bassist Christian Montagne, and drummer Jean Michel Cavallo—each previously associated with Seventeen—recognized the magnetic frontman they had been seeking after encountering O’Shea during his performances across Cork, Ireland. Yet O’Shea’s immediate priorities lay elsewhere: residing in the rural expanses of Aghada, a settlement situated several miles outside Dublin, he and his younger brother Ciaran opted for steady wages rather than pursue rock aspirations, departing for employment at Euro Disney in France. While visiting home on vacation, the siblings resolved to experiment with forming a band, giving rise to Cyclefly.
Generation Sap took shape in Los Angeles, CA, guided by producer Sylvia Massy, whose prior work encompassed Skunk Anansie and Tool. The resulting 11-track debut appeared on Radioactive Records during the summer of 1999. Subsequent years brought support tours alongside Tool and Linkin Park, culminating in the 2002 release of the band’s second album, Crave.
