Biography
After Can, the pioneering German experimental rock band, put out The Lost Tapes as a collection of long-neglected archival recordings, founding members Jaki Liebeziet and Irmin Schmidt gathered with their veteran associates Burnt Friedman and Jono Podmore at Studio Les Rossignols in France during May 2011. The sessions were prompted by the widespread enthusiasm that followed the emergence of Can’s previously hidden material. Although the four musicians had already joined forces in several earlier combinations, they operated under the name Cyclopean for this project and produced an inventive mix of electronic and acoustic instrumentals carrying traces of Middle Eastern influence. In February 2013 Mute Records issued four tracks from the sessions as the self-titled Cyclopean EP.
