Cylob

Emerging from the Rephlex label run by Richard "Aphex Twin" James in Cornwall, Chris Jeffs has issued material under the guises of Cylob and Kinesthesia that ranks among the imprint's most notable recent output. Less productive than his associates and occasional label colleagues James and Mike Paradinas of µ-Ziq, Jeffs has nevertheless compiled a sizable body of work across a compressed timeframe. After first dabbling in electronics in 1991, he delivered three EPs and three albums over the ensuing five years, among them the playful DJ double-pack Loops and Breaks credited to Cylob and the minimal ambient Empathy Box issued as Kinesthesia, together with remixes completed for Aphex Twin, Bochum Welt, and Immersion. While his current focus rests on a polished strain of ambient breakbeat and techno, his broader range spans gritty industrial-tinged techno, purely atmospheric beatless pieces, and modern electro-funk.
