In the closing years of the 1990s, Annika Thornquist, Per Lidén, and Pier Schmid formed a dance-pop group to break into Sweden’s club and dance-music circles. Their chart-topping single “Do You Want Me” and commercially successful debut album Da Sound quickly positioned the trio for broader international reach.

Annika Thornquist, whose background as a vocalist encompassed jazz, pop/rock, and classical repertoire, united with guitarist, songwriter, and one-time heavy-metal performer Per Lidén—who had already started his own dance-pop project Freebie in 1995—and music teacher Pier Schmid, formerly a clarinet and saxophone player in local jazz ensembles. The newly assembled act took the name Da Buzz.

This Swedish trio entered Billboard’s Dance-Club Play chart’s Top 10 in April 2001 with the infectious pop single “Let Me Love You.” Their second album, Wanna Be With Me, arrived the following year.
