Born around 1970 in Djeole, Boutilimit, Mauritania, Daby Touré grew up as the son of traveling musician Hamidou Touré. His formative years unfolded between Senegal and Mauritania until, in 1989 while still a teenager, he followed his father to Paris, France, where Hamidou joined the family group Touré Kunda. That move inspired Daby to pursue music himself, leading him to co-found Touré Touré with his cousin Omar Touré.

Drawing from the traditional sounds of his homeland, Touré composes many of the pieces he performs and shaped fresh adaptations that fit his surroundings in Paris. He appeared on Peter Gabriel’s Still Growing Up tour, which took him to England and to the 2004 WOMAD festival in Reading.

Touré delivers vocals in French and English as well as Wolof, Soninké, and Pulaar. On his recordings he layers guitar, bass, and assorted percussion instruments himself through multi-tracking, while Cyrille Dufay supplies the keyboard parts. As a committed custodian of his musical roots, Touré has broadened awareness of that heritage among audiences across Europe.
