Daggerboard, an all-star collective rooted in the Bay Area, craft atmospheric post-bop jazz that bends genres into funk and further explorations. Their introduction arrived via the 2021 release Last Days at Studio A, which preceded a partnership with veteran bassist Henry Franklin for the 2022 album Daggerboard and the Skipper.

Since its formation in 2018, the group has operated under the leadership of percussionist/composer Gregory Howe and trumpeter/composer Erik Jekabson. The endeavor first emerged from shared sessions with saxophonist Kamasi Washington inside Throttle Elevator Music, while also incorporating drummer Mike Hughes and guitarist Ross Howe. Decades of individual Bay Area work inform the distinct perspectives each musician contributes to Daggerboard. Their expansive approach received an early platform on 2021's Last Days at Studio A, captured during a joint performance at the famed Berkley, California studio shortly before its 2018 closure. The follow-up Daggerboard and the Skipper arrived in 2022 as another bold outing, this time uniting the ensemble with legendary bassist Henry "The Skipper" Franklin and additional input from vibraphonist Roger Glenn alongside violinist Mads Tolling.
