Biography
Daisuke Ono, a Japanese voice actor born in Kochi in 1978, secured his breakthrough through a key role in the anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. In addition to his primary work in animation, he maintains a secondary career as a pop performer, issuing original songs alongside character tracks linked to his projects. He enrolled at the Nihon University College of Art intending to enter television broadcasting, yet redirected his path toward voice acting following pointed critiques of his early efforts.
Ono entered the profession in 2002 with a minor appearance in Full Metal Panic!. Over the next two years he accumulated more than thirty small parts before gaining traction in 2005 via a leading role in the romantic series Air. Recognition expanded sharply in 2006 when he voiced a central character in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, contributed to the OVA Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73: Stargazer, and began voicing a character in the Sonic the Hedgehog game series. Few major assignments arrived in 2007 beyond the lead in Black Butler, though he launched his music career that year with character singles, the collaborative Vitamin X Character CD Diamond Disc alongside Suzuki Tatsuhisa, and the original EP Hinemosu, which reached number 73 on the charts.
The singles “Amaoto” and “Manatsu no Spica” followed in 2008, peaking at numbers 17 and 23 respectively; during the same period Ono issued two further character albums involving collaborations, released multiple singles, and supplied lead voices for Monochrome Factor, Neo Angelique Abyss, and Shina Dark. Momentum built further in 2009 as he portrayed the male protagonist in Final Fantasy XIII, took five lead anime roles aside from additional Haruhi Suzumiya productions, and released his first full-length album, Kazahana, which charted at number 13.
