Biography
Emerging in the early 1990s as a Christian alternative act, Dakoda Motor Co. centered on vocalist Davia Vallesillo alongside guitarist and vocalist Peter King, who worked as a professional surfer and often hosted MTV's Sandblast series, plus guitarist Elliot Chenault, bassist Derik Toy, and drummer Chuck Cummings. The group secured a deal with the gospel imprint Myrrh, issuing Into the Sun during 1993 followed by Welcome Race Fans the subsequent year. Melissa Brewer came aboard in 1995 to take Vallesillo's place, prompting a shift to Holiday/Atlantic. Their debut major-label album, Railroad, arrived at the start of 1996.
