In late 2004 Athens, Greece, served as the origin point for Dakrya when classically trained keyboard player Sophia X, also known as Sophia Charalampous, set out to fuse heavy metal, goth, progressive, symphonic, and art rock into a single sound framed by theatrical presentation. Realizing that hybrid demanded multiple demo recordings, repeated lineup adjustments, prolonged rehearsal periods, and repeated stage appearances before the material took coherent form. The process reached completion in 2008 with the appearance of the band’s debut album Monumento, which drew considerable praise for its strikingly original yet precisely assembled musical design. Wider touring opportunities soon arose, yet Sophia X and her bandmates—operatic vocalist Thomais Chatzigianni (ex-Insidius Infernus), rock vocalist Christina Kalantzi, guitarist/vocalist George Droulias, guitarist Angelos Charogiannis, bassist Alex Drake, and drummer Stavros Vorissis—immediately turned their attention to an even more expansive second album. Released in 2010 on Sensory Records, Crime Scene prompted simultaneous reactions of acclaim and bewilderment.
