Biography
Damien Dubrovnik emerged as an experimental noise project launched by the Copenhagen-based pair Loke Rahbek and Christian Stadsgaard. Deeply embedded in Denmark’s close-knit underground community, the two inaugurated their Posh Isolation imprint via the outfit’s debut outing, Songs for Loviatar, in 2009. Their severe, blackened approach to noise traced a direct line from Dadaist origins through the pioneering work of Throbbing Gristle and onward to Scandinavia’s black metal tradition. Later that same year a split cassette, Curse of Eve, surfaced alongside Stadsgaard’s solo endeavor Sarah’s Charity. While dividing attention among additional ventures—Lust for Youth, Vanity Productions, and Limepit—as well as the demands of running the label, the duo returned in May 2011 with Europa Dagbog - Europa Diary, again issued on Posh Isolation. A few months afterward the cassette The Vanity Set appeared on the Swedish imprint Järtecknet. Although live appearances remained a regular, viscerally charged activity, the next studio offering arrived only in 2013: First Burning Attraction, which Luke Younger placed on his Alter label following an exchange about potential collaboration. The association with Alter persisted, yielding the single Patterns of Penetration the following year. Further honing their sonic palette without diminishing its force, the pair drew on stage experiences to shape their fourth album, Vegas Fountain, whose thematic core revolved around seduction and which reached listeners in March 2015. They closed the year with the more techno-oriented EP The Light of God Shines Eternal, released via Silent Servant’s Jealous God. After another stretch devoted to parallel projects such as Empire Line, Body Sculptures, and Croatian Amor, Rahbek and Stadsgaard reconvened to craft their fifth full-length, Great Many Arrows. The record incorporated assorted wind and string instruments, marked the 200th release on Posh Isolation, and surfaced in June 2017.
