Dampé serves as the genre-blending solo outlet for Joe Munday, a producer, performer, and regular on Rinse FM who is based in Southeast London. Through projects like the 2021 EP Oil, Munday combines live instrumentation, analog synths, samples, and field recordings to craft rhythmically inventive experimental electronic pieces alongside club tracks.

Once he relocated to London, Munday immersed himself in the local club environment by regularly attending key events such as FWD>> and You're a Melody. During the mid-2010s he issued two EPs under his own name while also securing bookings and delivering performances across the capital and other parts of Europe under multiple aliases. As Dampé he focused on left-field house material, which led to a signing with the Berlin label Dirt Crew and the March 2019 release of the Peach Shuffle EP. Later that same year a remix of S3A’s “Fever” appeared together with the second EP Garden, coinciding with Dampé’s growing presence as a frequent DJ on the London dance station Rinse FM.

In 2020 Dampé teamed with Bristol-bred emcee Mushkilla for the garage cut “Jesse James” and put out the third EP Shadwell. Opix, an experimental album jointly written and produced at a distance by British Egyptian composer Sami El-Enany and Munday during lockdown, came out on Faith & Industry toward the close of 2020. Dampé’s more club-oriented Oil EP then surfaced on the Singaporean label Darker Than Wax in early 2021.
