Biography
Born in a Pittsburgh suburb, Dana Vaughns cultivated an early passion for performance, enrolling in dance and vocal instruction before the age of ten. Encouraged by his parents to chase opportunities in entertainment, he relocated to California with his mother. His first professional engagement came via Kidz Bop, which generated further work in motion pictures, television programs, and advertisements near the start of the 2010s, among them an appearance in Hannah Montana: The Movie in 2009. Shortly thereafter he joined the boy band IM5, a lineup soon pared from five members down to a trio consisting of Vaughns, Cole Pendery, and Gabe Morales.
Although IM5 failed to register a major hit, the group participated in the 2013 series MyMusic, an experience that led to Vaughns’ casting in the 2014 series #Bandcamp. After several years of relative inactivity, he reemerged in 2017 with the piano ballad “Feelings,” a streaming success that positioned him as an adult pop artist. The EDM-influenced single “Underneath,” released the following year, enjoyed similar streaming traction, and over the ensuing twelve months he issued additional tracks including “Sweet Tea” and “Rough Rider,” both of which appeared on his debut EP, Familiar Strangers, in late 2019.
