Daneshevskaya crafts orchestral indie folk that evokes the atmospheres of dreams and fantasies. Following in the vein of Joanna Newsom and Jessica Pratt, her warm vocal approach drew audiences into the sincere playfulness of her first EP, Bury Your Horses from 2021, which built on the minimal acoustic guitar of her initial singles through the addition of strings, piano, and drums. The sonic palette grew further on her first full-length album, Long Is the Tunnel in 2023, incorporating synths, woodwinds, and additional elements.

Anna Beckerman, who was born in San Francisco and moved to New York at age seven, chose the name Daneshevskaya for her solo work to evoke a sense of mystery and romance. The moniker, taken from her middle name, had originally belonged to her great-grandmother. Raised by a father who taught music and a mother who trained in opera, Beckerman shared with her siblings a household where multiple instruments were played. Over the five years before her debut EP, she issued early singles consisting of whimsical acoustic guitar pieces such as “Kermit and Gyro” and “Summer :(. ” Produced and engineered by Artur Szerejko, the August 2021 release Bury Your Horses featured additional players on piano, strings, and drums along with Szerejko’s own contributions on guitar and bass. Among its tracks was the single “Dr. Johann Averies,” titled after a character from the 2007 horror film Paranormal Activity; the song achieved modest viral traction, surpassing one million streams prior to the arrival of her album.

Returning to the studio with Szerejko and an expanded group of musicians, she enlisted co-producers Ruben Radlauer (Current Joys, Sloppy Jane) and Hayden Ticehurst (Sloppy Jane, Daisy the Great) for the seven-track Long Is the Tunnel. Issued in November 2023 as her debut on the Winspear label, the album marked a further expansion of her recorded work.
