Born in 1948, Daniel Guichard grew up in Paris throughout the 1950s while cultivating the persona of a classic Parisian youth, complete with every associated stereotype and a pronounced accent. Tenderness, grief, romance, and reminiscence formed the core subjects of his recordings, which conveyed his understated temperament. During the 1960s he began performing in Montmartre cabarets, interpreting material by Bruant, Edith Piaf, and further French icons, before Barclay quickly offered a contract; he had earlier worked there as a packer. In 1972 he made his first Olympia appearance, opening for Mireille Matthieu alongside Gérard Lenorman, and returned to the hall repeatedly in later years. His greatest popularity spanned 1971 to 1974, the final year of that stretch bringing a Caméra d'Or. Between 1975 and 1985 he founded the Kuldos label and established Radio Bocal. In 1985 he assembled multiple recording artists for a series of benefit concerts supporting scientific cancer research. Two of the hit singles that secured his place in French music are 1971’s “La Tendresse” and 1974’s “Mon Vieux,” the latter written with music by Jean Ferrat.
