Biography
Hailing from New York City, Daniel Harnett commands a vocal presence that echoes the late Jeff Buckley. Raised on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, he first channeled his energies into acting, making his Broadway debut in I Remember Mama with Liv Ullman and racking up appearances in numerous off-Broadway productions and independent films. Parallel to those stage and screen pursuits, Harnett chased his musical ambitions, beginning songwriting in high school and ultimately completing more than 500 compositions while maintaining a steady performance schedule at New York City clubs such as Sin-e, the Den, Arlene Grocery, the Living Room, and Mercury Lounge, where he opened for Beth Orton, Stereolab, Jewel, and Buckley himself. Several of his pieces have also surfaced in independent films. His recorded output comprises the 70-track lo-fi boxset Dream Ode 500 assembling his accumulated material and the 2001 release Loeing to Higher.
