Biography
Canadian musician Daphne Kalfon issued the infectious single "I Love My Mac" in 2004, further exasperating PC users already irritated by Apple's growing media visibility. Based in Vancouver, Kalfon had spent years immersed in classical piano, theory, and composition while also exploring jazz, film scoring, and orchestration. After GarageBand appeared, she quickly embraced the Mac music-creation software and became an active participant on the digital hub www.macjams.com, where she exchanged and distributed her own pieces. Through that site she discovered MacCompanion magazine's contest for the ultimate Mac tribute song.
Kalfon submitted "I Love My Mac" just before the cutoff and received first prize, a 250-GB hard drive. Mac enthusiasts responded with widespread enthusiasm, circulating the track and producing translations in multiple languages. The song later featured on the December 2005 CD-ROM bundled with MacAddict magazine, appeared in numerous podcasts, and entered the rotations of more technically inclined Internet radio stations. Once offered as a download, it allowed Mac devotees to enjoy the upbeat number on their iPods.
