Biography
Germany's D'Arcangelo pairs twin brothers Fabrizio and Marco D'Arcangelo, who merge neo-electro, minimal techno, and further strains of underground dance music. The brothers, devotees of new wave and dark synth pop, crossed paths with kindred spirit Max Durante and launched Automatic Sound Unlimited. That collaboration surfaced first in 1992 via the Roman's Attak EP and ran for two years until it ended. Two years after the split, the twins issued a self-titled EP on Rephlex, the label co-owned by their idol and primary influence, Richard D. James aka Aphex Twin, thereby securing their foothold. Their taste for noisy synths meshed exactly with the label's "Braindance" ethos and the fractured dance music it championed. Before the 1999 arrival of debut album Shipwreck, another Rephlex EP and one side of a split 7" on the Suction label appeared. Their 2002 sophomore album for Rephlex, Broken Toys' Corner, and that year's White Leather remix EP, Corner, carried less noise. The duo contributed to Rephlex's limited-edition soundtrack for the video game Manhunt in 2004, then observed their measured release rhythm by issuing the Pro 188 EP in 2006. Fresh momentum brought the full-length Eksel in 2007.
