Biography
Originating from Austin, Texas, Darin Murphy stands as the younger brother of country-folk singer/songwriter Trish Murphy, with whom he has shared performances. His output consists of quirky, hook-laden songs shaped by '60s British pop and routinely likened to the approach of XTC. He spent his early years in the Houston region, where he and his sister launched the folk-rock duo Trish & Darin. A move to Austin in the mid-'90s launched his solo path, on which he wrote, produced, and played every part for his first album, 1999's Solitarium. Further work with local Austin acts such as Goudie, Cotton Mather, the Love Supreme, and Shane Bartell preceded the independent September 2001 arrival of his second effort, Haunted Gardenias.
