Biography
Known as "Lake Tahoe's Troubadour," the relaxed folk-rock performer Darin Talbot directs his songwriting chiefly toward honoring snowboarding culture, echoing the way Jimmy Buffett elevates beach idling and Jack Johnson spotlights surfing. His tributes to that relaxed existence, echoing the sonic approach of the Samples, drew an unlikely admirer in Dr. Demento. A 1999 offer to support the Brian Setzer Orchestra at the Playboy Mansion strengthened Talbot's determination. That November his first album, Music Flight, appeared on the independent Air Tahoe Records label. May 2001 saw the arrival of Tahoe Backcountry, his initial effort to narrow its lens strictly onto snowboarding themes. After Radio Disney began airing several cuts, Talbot sustained the "Tahoe, fun, and snow" motif across 2003's Big Air. He devoted much of 2004 and 2005 to bar and wedding performances throughout Tahoe and the rest of Nevada, while preparing a fourth album, Rise, for 2006 that signaled a shift back toward broader subject matter.
