Dark Celebration

Formed in the remote southern Brazilian city of Caxias do Sul around 1996, the black metal outfit Dark Celebration has aggressively championed satanic imagery through infrequent recordings such as the 2002 effort Damned Be Thy Name and the 2005 follow-up Indicium, treating both as instruments of apocalyptic conflict. Limited attention has followed these works, owing to the ensemble’s geographic seclusion and wholly self-reliant operations, yet the 2009 Paragon Records release Phlegeton: The Transcendence of Demon Lords—featuring Daniel Goldenberg on vocals, Rodrigo N. and André L. on guitar, Wendel S. on bass, and Rodrigo F. on drums—could finally furnish the visibility required to lift their ideological campaign from subterranean obscurity into broader view.
