Biography
A collection of session vocalists assembled under the name The Dark City Sisters for the purpose of making a recording, and through that endeavor they helped establish a fresh approach to vocal performance. Departing from the standard practice of four-part harmonies, they employed five distinct vocal lines to achieve a fuller sound. This method, occasionally referred to as vocal jive, fell within the broader category known as mbaqanga—a term that denotes both a dumpling in its literal sense and an indigenous musical expression in its figurative usage.
