During the 1950s and early 1960s Darla Daret maintained a steady career as a session singer, moving with equal ease between pop and country styles. She joined the western swing ensemble Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys in 1955 and continued to appear with the group at intervals for the balance of the decade. Her contribution to Sonny James’s recording of “Are You Mine” remained uncredited until the 2002 issue of the six-CD boxed set Sonny James: Young Love -- The Complete Recordings 1952-1962.

She inadvertently entered rock-and-roll history by cutting her sole solo release, “Don’t Cha Wanna” b/w “Honey Hush,” in 1957. The single was supported by the Johnny Mann Orchestra, with rock pioneer Eddie Cochrane supplying guitar.
