Biography
In 2013 the Toronto-based five-piece Darlene Shrugg came together, blending raw and distorted indie rock with touches of art-pop, electro-pop, and glam rock. Drawing from several prominent figures in the local underground scene, the lineup includes Maximilian Turnbull of Slim Twig, Meg Remy from U.S. Girls, Simone TB who has worked with Slim Twig and Fake Palms, plus Carlyn Bezic and Amanda Crist both associated with Ice Cream. With multiple vocalists and an approach centered on group collaboration, the musicians worked alongside producer Steve Chahley on their self-titled first album, issued in October 2017 through the British independent label Upset the Rhythm.
