Having sung with Cyrano and the Bergeracs, a London group active in the mid-1960s, Langston later became the Who's first full-time road manager. His chief musical credential is the co-writing, with Roger Daltrey, of "Early Morning Cold Taxi," a track left off The Who Sell Out. Fitting comfortably within the Who's power pop approach, the song carried enough of that band's character to be taken for an unreleased Pete Townshend number. It nevertheless failed to appear on The Who Sell Out. Although the number circulated widely on bootlegs in later decades, it remained officially unreleased until the mid-1990s, when it surfaced on the Who's Thirty Years of Maximum R&B box set and was also added to the expanded CD edition of The Who Sell Out.
