Dave Thompson

From the age of nine, Dave Thompson took up blues guitar under the guidance and support of his father, himself a musician. Born in Mississippi, he joined backing bands for area performers such as the Greenville Letts while still in his early teens. At fifteen he linked up with club owner and fellow bluesman Booba Barnes, and together they toured the state’s occasionally hazardous club circuit. Thompson’s first recorded appearance occurred on David Malone’s debut album for Fat Possum Records; Malone is the son of bluesman Junior Kimbrough. That session opened the door to Thompson’s own debut solo album, Little Dave and Big Love, issued in 1995 and spotlighting his intense guitar style.
