Biography
David Barrus commands attention through the clarity and resonance of his tenor voice. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Brigham Young University, he anticipates finishing a master’s degree at the University of Connecticut. His stage training enables him to move fluidly between Broadway repertoire and dramatic, expansive interpretations of popular Latter-day Saint hymns, and he has also appeared in Shakespearean productions. Among his earlier roles were Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, Tony in West Side Story, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Miles Gloriosus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He created the part of Ham for Michael McLean and Kevin Kelly’s The Ark and later recorded it for the cast album. Barrus issued his debut solo recording, On Stage, in 1998; the album received two Pearl Awards from the FCMA. The following year he released Beautiful Savior, a collection of LDS hymns. He is the son of the late Clyn D. Barrus, founder of the Utah Valley School of Music and Symphony, and lives with his wife Amy in Provo, Utah.
