Biography
Born in Mississippi, guitarist and singer David Dee, originally named David Eckford, has remained a steady presence on the St. Louis blues circuit for more than twenty years. His signature recording, the 1982 regional hit “Goin’ Fishing,” still draws audiences as he tours the Midwest with his band. Having settled in east St. Louis during childhood, Dee began singing gospel at age twelve. At sixteen he accompanied his parents on a short relocation to Chicago, yet returned at the first opportunity and secured work with several vocal ensembles. After completing military service, he organized the group David & the Temptations. Early experiments with keyboards, alto saxophone, and bass gave way to a permanent shift to guitar in 1972.
