Hailing from Kent, Ohio, Americana singer-songwriter David Mayfield maintains strong connections to bluegrass and folk traditions. As a youngster, he performed on bass during tours with his family's bluegrass ensemble before taking up guitar and mandolin in his teenage years, where his skillful flatpicking earned him national recognition. He has collaborated as both performer and producer with his sibling Jessica Lea Mayfield, and in 2007 he became a member of the progressive bluegrass group Cadillac Sky. Their intense and forceful approach drew criticism from purists yet cultivated a devoted young audience and secured performances with artists such as Mumford & Sons and the Avett Brothers. It was during this period that Mayfield started composing original songs, and following three albums alongside Cadillac Sky, he issued his debut solo project as the David Mayfield Parade. This release featured a somber, raw Americana style blended with rock and country influences. Mayfield persisted in his songwriting while honing his energetic live shows, putting out Good Man Down in 2013 and achieving significant praise for Strangers the following year.
