David Milligan

Origin: U.S.A
Listen on Coda
Born in 1971 in Scotland, Milligan trained in jazz at Leeds College of Music before establishing himself as a sought-after pianist throughout his home country. In that role he accompanied visiting musicians from elsewhere in the UK and from the United States, among them Buddy De Franco, Art Farmer, Scott Hamilton, Pete King and Valery Ponomarev. He has maintained an ongoing association with Carol Kidd, including an appearance on her 2000 release Auld Lang Syne. The pianist’s jazz trio, completed by drummer Tom Bancroft and bassist Tom Lyne, issued its first recording in 2003. Although unmistakably a jazz musician of substantial accomplishment, Milligan folds subtle references to Scottish folk traditions into contemporary jazz material, thereby imparting a singular character to much of his work.
