Biography
In 1984 David Steinhart established the California recording group Pop Art with his brothers Jeff and Richard. Across the six years the band existed, five albums appeared on the Steinharts’ own Stonegarden Records imprint, while repeated tours throughout the United States and Europe turned the act into a fixture on college-radio playlists. In 1994 bassist Cindy Albon and drummer/programmer John Glogovac united with David Steinhart to launch the Stonegarden-distributed ensemble Smart Brown Handbag, whose goal was to generate still more hook-laden, super-charged pop. By then the label had already issued more than forty titles, a period during which David Steinhart also pursued solo work that commenced with the 1992 release Everything She Says—the first in a sequence of individual recordings—followed by The Almighty Nest in 1993 and Clean in 2001.
