Biography
From childhood onward, Anson and Eric Dawkins launched their gospel performing path alongside their mother in a family trio that performed at revivals led by their father, a Pentecostal preacher. During their teenage years Eric took up piano while Anson concentrated on drums and trumpet, and the siblings eventually became members of Commissioned; they departed the group to establish Dawkins & Dawkins in 1992, inking a deal with the Benson label for their self-titled debut LP that blended contemporary gospel with rap and R&B influences. Necessary Measures arrived in 1994, after which an extended break allowed the brothers to explore production, songwriting, and acting opportunities before Dawkins & Dawkins resurfaced in 1998 with Focus.
