Biography
Not to be confused with the German black metal band sharing its name, Dawn of Dreams originated in the Tyrol mountains during April 1994. The group began under the moniker Stable Stench but had to restructure after its drummer joined the army. In November 1995 the ensemble adopted the name Dawn of Dreams and, via a home-studio demo, caught the ear of Candlestick Records. Its first full-length release, Amber, appeared in January 1997.
Although the band completed a follow-up within five months, Candlestick entered a period of upheaval once label manager Lee Barrett departed, leaving the record shelved for a full year. By then Dawn of Dreams had shrunk to a trio. With Sebastian Goralik handling every guitar part, the outfit underwent a substantial shift: whereas earlier efforts had centered on a conventional grind-to-the-metal approach, the third album, Eidolon, introduced classical and electronic elements.
Having previously relied on drum machines, the group recruited a live drummer—borrowed from the Polish gothic outfit Undish—for the still-unreleased fourth album, Ei Dolon. Dawn of Dreams did not perform publicly until 7 September 2001, when it appeared at a metal festival in Zirl, Austria.
