Biography
Emerging in the wake of the late-1970s/1980s rock outfit Big Money, Dawn Patrol has sustained and extended the predecessor's emphasis on memorable hooks. The five-piece ensemble has built a growing audience across the southeastern United States through consistent touring and the appeal of its energetic material.
Although the foundational elements of the group's sound trace to the contributions of former Big Money musicians Roger Bush, Dwayne "Rodak" McCormick, and Noel Vaughn, Dawn Patrol advanced its direction by incorporating guitar, mandolin, and keyboards player Kid Otto alongside bassist Hank Stardust. Otto, previously a member of Jeff Stevens and the Bullets, had followed Big Money since high school. He first reached Bush—who had pursued jazz engagements and roles in a touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar following the earlier band's dissolution—by telephone and identified himself. Their connection deepened through an ongoing exchange of recordings. The pair met in person for the first time at a February 1995 show in Charleston, West Virginia, where they initiated work on what was conceived as a solo project for Otto. The resulting partnership proved sufficiently productive that the two chose to extend their collaboration.
