Dawn Ray'd

Hailing from Liverpool, England, the black metal trio Dawn Ray'd operates from an anarchist and anti-fascist stance, rejecting the genre’s customary bleak lyrical themes in favor of raw, throat-shredding attacks on racism, sexism, and economic inequality. Their lyrics, which swing between moments of uplift and unrelenting darkness while confronting political and social concerns, merge with a caustic yet atmospheric sound enriched by vocalist and violinist Simon B., evoking Wolves in the Throne Room and Agalloch alongside traces of anarcho-punk legends Crass. Halo of Flies released the band’s debut album, A Thorn, A Blight, in 2015. Prosthetic Records issued the 2017 sophomore effort Unlawful Assembly and later handled 2019’s Behold Sedition's Plainsong.
