Biography
Daydream Nation, an Ottawa-based Canadian outfit, centers on the contributions of guitarist and vocalist Pat Vaz alongside drummer Hunter Crowley. The pair took their name from Sonic Youth’s landmark 1988 album of the same title, yet their sound aligns more closely with the Church, Ride, and the Jesus and Mary Chain than with Thurston Moore’s experimental noise explorations. Crowley first gained experience performing alongside the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Warlocks, later teaming with Vaz to craft a distinctive neo-shoegazer approach during the early 2000s. The duo’s self-titled debut appeared in October 2003 via the Ohio label Elephant Stone. For their second album, Bella Vendetta, released in fall 2004, Daydream Nation enlisted Brent Rademaker of Beachwood Sparks and the Tyde plus Dave Koenig of the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
