Westside Atlanta rapper, actor, and comedian DC Young Fly merges music and humor to build a loyal following through his abundant stage and screen output. Celebrity roasting sessions first brought him notice, after which he earned Rookie of the Year honors during his debut season on MTV's Wild 'n Out and supplied several projects to BET. He expanded his credits with roles in She Ball alongside Nick Cannon and How High 2. Curb Music marked his first album in 2018, followed by Trap Soul in 2019 and Fly Womack in 2020. Alongside his solo releases, he teamed with Karlous Miller and Chico Bean for Crack Smoke in Your Body, captured live at the Nashville Comedy Festival, and The Black Wall Street Comedy Special, taped live in Tulsa.

John Whitfield came into the world in Atlanta, Georgia, and began rapping in 2011 partly as tribute to his late brother. He later launched comedy videos online that roasted figures such as Drake and Kevin Hart. DC Young Fly introduced himself in 2014 via the single "Westside Connection," which he quickly followed with "M.A.P." He dropped "Right Now" and "No Weed" in 2016. Around the same period he joined the cast of MTV improv comedy show Wild 'n Out, pausing briefly to host a short-lived reboot of Total Request Live that premiered in late 2017. That year also saw the release of The 85 South Live Variety Show, an album drawn from his podcast with fellow Wild 'n Out alum Karlous Miller and Clayton English. His ongoing work with Miller and Chico Bean yielded further live recordings—Crack Smoke in Your Body in 2019 and The Black Wall Street Comedy Special in 2020—issued between his own Trap Soul and Fly Womack.
