D.D. Jackson drew guidance from mentor Don Pullen and assisted the ailing pianist in finishing his last composition, "Earth Eagle First Circle," during 1995. Beginning piano studies at age six and later relocating from his Canadian upbringing, Jackson obtained a jazz diploma at the Manhattan School of Music alongside a classical degree from Indiana University, while also receiving pivotal instruction from both Pullen and Jaki Byard. He has appeared alongside David Murray, Billy Bang, Nat Adderley, Jane Bunnett, and Dewey Redman, directed his own trio on Justin Time releases, and reached a wider audience with his 1999 RCA debut, ...So Far.
