Biography
De Glade Sømænd emerged as a Danish ensemble specializing in sea shanty music and first achieved widespread recognition in 2008 via the album Søforklaringer. The group originated in Karrebæksminde, a modest settlement on Zealand, and consists of many participants who adopt stage personas including Kaptajnen (the lead vocalist, born Sebastian Sztuk), Orlogskaptajnen, Matrosen, Fyrbøderen, Gasten, Masteføreren, Skipperen, Ankermanden Anker, and Lodsen. Two earlier releases, Høkersnaps Og Søuhyrer in 2005 and Med Stiv Kuling Og Håret Tilbage in 2007, preceded their commercial breakthrough with Søforklaringer. Issued by My Way Music, the record attained novelty-hit status by climbing to number two on the Danish albums chart during its second week and includes the single "Gi'r du en Putter?" Beyond studio work, the band maintains a strong presence as a live draw across the Danish festival circuit.
