Biography
An indie rock ensemble operating out of Baltimore, MA, Dead Red Sea produces a sparse, downcast emocore sound shaped by Midwestern hardcore along with blues and country elements. Their only complete album, Birds, appeared on Deep Elm Records in 2001.
The lineup comprises vocalist and guitarist Ryan Shelkett, Rhodes pianist and occasional drummer Charles Cole, bassist Alan Randall, and drummer and occasional Rhodes player Buck Holk, creating an emo supergroup configuration; Shelkett previously fronted Cross My Heart, Randall played in Wrong Button, and Holk performed with Third Harmonic Distortion.
Dead Red Sea tracked their debut, Birds, using Darron Eager on drums, during November 2000 at Baltimore’s ACR Studios alongside recording engineer Craig Bowen, then secured a contract with Deep Elm that issued the album in 2001.
