Deadman

Hailing from the mid-1990s grunge era, Deadman shaped a catchy strain of rock music. The lineup—vocalist and songwriter Steven Collins, pianist Sherilyn Collins, bassist Britton Beisenherz, and drummer John Scully—devoted two years to sharpening a gritty rock approach while gigging throughout their home state of Texas. In spring 2001 the band signed with Paramount’s Lakeshore Records and entered the studio with producer Mark Howard (U2, Bob Dylan, and Emmylou Harris). Deadman’s brooding intensity recalls Joe Henry and Mazzy Star, qualities fully realized on the group’s debut album, Paramour, issued in spring 2002.
