Biography
Richard Fearless served as a DJ at the Sunday Social, the era’s big-beat gathering spot shared with the Chemical Brothers and Jon Carter, before launching the studio project Death in Vegas to deliver a comparable rush of sonic energy. Teaming with Steve Hellier, he devoted two years to shaping tracks for a full-length release, which surfaced as Dead Elvis on the British Concrete imprint in the first months of 1997. Once the album secured U.S. licensing, the single “Dirt” registered as a modest MTV success before the year ended. For 1999’s The Contino Sessions, Fearless brought aboard production partner Tim Holmes and welcomed guest contributions from Iggy Pop and Bobby Gillespie. Paul Weller, Hope Sandoval, and Oasis’ Liam Gallagher appeared on 2002’s Scorpio Rising. The rapport between Gallagher and the pair led to a 2004 announcement that Death in Vegas would helm the next Oasis album, yet those sessions ultimately fell apart and were abandoned. Released without star cameos and minimal vocal content, the band’s fourth album, Satan's Circus, reached the U.K. in 2004 and the U.S. the following year. Fabriclive.23, a mix compilation, appeared worldwide in 2005. After Fearless relocated to New York City, the Death in Vegas project lay dormant until the 2011 single “Your Loft My Acid” ushered in the album Trans-Love Energies. Early 2016 brought the sixth studio effort, Transmission, recorded in collaboration with writer and former adult performer Sasha Grey.
