Biography
Debbie Andrews, a gifted vocalist and pianist, entered the world and spent her early years in Detroit during the unsettled 1960s. Near age seven she launched her classical piano training. Her deepening passion for music and expanding technical command soon became evident. Those abilities prompted the National Endowment for the Arts to award her a notable Jazz Fellowship Grant while she was still young. In the 1970s, at barely sixteen, she obtained her first major professional booking, appearing on Broadway in the acclaimed musical Hair and portraying the character Chrissy.
Andrews delivered her solo debut album, Surrounded By Windows, in 1997 on the Cygnus Records label. The title track attained hit status throughout Europe. One year later her song “Right Here in Your Eyes” was featured in the motion picture The Ride. In 1999 she completed her distinguished second full-length project, Suburbs of Eden. Pop/rock and piano-centered selections that listeners encounter on her recordings or during club engagements include “Always an Angel,” “End of the World,” “Like an Echo,” “Shoebox Memories,” and “Intended.”
